EP annihilates Boland

TUESDAY, 11.00AM:

EASTERN Province held Boland to a fine six-wicket away victory in just 38.5 overs on Monday in a Standard Bank League fixture.

The two teams meet in Paarl again on Saturday in the quarterfinal of the cup competition, with EP now favourites to make it to the semifinals.

Boland won the toss and elected to bat, but made heavy going of the bowling to notch up 183/7.

Rain held up play for anhour during the dinner break, but that did not dampen the spirits of Louis Koen, who set the pace with a snappy 34 off just 32 balls, including six fours. EP reached their target of 184 having conceded only four wickets and with 37 balls to spare.

Man-of-the-match Justin Kemp survived a drop in the slips on six to take his tally to an unbeaten 64. With Together with Koen, the pair cracked out the first 50 runs in 38 balls to post a run rate of 7,5 an over — making up for the loss of opener Ashwell Prince (7) with only 10 runs on the board. Koen and Kemp’s second-wicket partnership yielded 62 runs off 52 balls.
