MONDAY, 12.30PM:
SOUTH Africa’s Under-19 cricket team may well be through to the final of the MTN Under-19 World Cup, if they can beat Sri Lanka.
The tenacious South Africans beat New Zealand by five wickets at Newlands on Sunday after being set a target of 195. South Africa were, however, put under quite a bit of pressure early in the game when they were reeling at 73 for four.
Morn van Wyk, the 18-year-old Free Stater, came to South Africa’s rescue for the second time in the tournament, and got his team out of trouble with an unbeaten 51. Van Wyk, sporting a broken and badly bruised finger, grimly hung on to see the South Africans take the match.
South Africa will likely meet Australia in the final, although both teams still have one match left to play. Australia will play England on Tuesday.
