BobSave weekend results

OWN CORRESPONDENT, Johannesburg | Tuesday 12.30pm.

INLAND teams were generally more successful in BobSave Super Bowl weekend premiliminary round matches, while most coastal sides turned belly up.

Spareco Black Leopards worked hard against Matsena Giant Killers at Ga-Kgapane stadium, but eventually triumphed 4-1 on penalties after a no-goal game.

In Pietersburg, Ria Stars pulled off a 5-4 win on penalties against Real Rovers after a long 2-2 match.

The City Sharks were taken out by Classic at the WJ Clements stadium, while Dobsonville All Nations put in a resounding performance to humiliate Sporting FC 4-1 at the Meadowlands stadium.

At Kings Park, Lamontville Golden Arrows were defeated 3-0 by Wanderers.

Witbank Aces, playing at the Pretoria prison grounds, were snuffed by Spartak 1-2.

Nearby, at the Odi stadium, Giant Aces overwhelmed Morning Stars 3-0. The Stars were short players through injuries and suspensions.

The Tsakane Aces lost 1-2 to Mkhulu United at Pauliana stadium. The weekend saw Michau Warriors, Royal Tigers and Saxon Rovers ousted from cup play.

SPORTS FEATURES

It’s derby day

Bafana Bafana played to a half empty stadium last weekend as fans saved their rands for this weekend’s clash of the giants – Kaizer Chiefs vs Orlando Pirates. Tradition suggests Pirates can triumph but recent form favours Chiefs.

Bulls falter in home stretch

With two weekends of qualifying to go, the Blue Bulls are by no means assured of a place in the Currie Cup semi-finals. The Griquas look like the team to watch.

The right men for the job

Kepler Wessels and Pat Symcox may seem over-the-hill to some but they are just the men help Griquas develop the game of cricket in far-off Kimberley.
