Els looks for No. 1

OWN CORRESPONDENT, Johannesburg | Tuesday 9.00pm.

Ernie Els’s victory in the Alfred Dunhill SA PGA on Sunday has moved him back up to fourth place in the latest world rankings issued on Monday.

Els, newly-wed and refreshed after an injury-plagued 1998, is looking forward to 1999 and is aiming to get back on top of the world rankings, a position he held for two months in the first half of last year.

“I’m definitely trying to get back to No 1 in the world. I’ve got the talent and I’ve had the feeling (of being No 1) before – it’s good to have. David Duval, Lee Westwood and Tiger Woods are probably the top three at the moment, I’ve just got to keep this winning feeling”, said Els after his four-shot victory.

Els moved just ahead ahead of American Davis Love, who dropped a place by finishing second in the Hawaiian Open.
