NIGERIAN ELECTION RULES SET

THE Independent National Electoral Commission on Wednesday set out the rules governing the February 27 election to choose Nigeria’s first civilian president in more than 15 yearsr. Thenext president of Africa’s most populous country must be a Nigerian citizen, aged 40 or over, and educated to at least School Certificate level, under rules announced on Wednesday. The candidate (defined in the rules as a “he”) must be also be a member of one of Nigeria’s three registered political parties and sponsored by that party. He must also be nominated by at least 60 people in at least two-thirds of Nigeria’s 36 states.
