A MAGISTRATE ordered here on Tuesday that Trevor Tutu, the son of Nobel peace laureate Archbishop Desmond Tutu, be held in police custody after he failed to appear in court for the third time on charges of reckless driving.Tutu was due in the Johannesburg magistrate’s court for the resumption of a trial in which he stands accused of running a red light, hitting another car and seriously injuring two people in Houghton, Johannesburg on January 22, 1998.Tutu arrived at court in the afternoon, explaining that he had a blown-out tyre on his way there, but by then the magistrate had issued a warrant for his arrest and ruled he be held in custody.He is expected to apply for bail on Thursday.Tutu, a businessman, has become known for his brushes with the law.
