FARM ATTACKS DOWN

PRELIMINARY figures collated by the Rural Safety Task Team indicate a significant decrease in the number of attacks on farms and smallholdings since the Summit on Rural Safety and Security on October 10 1998. The number of attacks decreased from 79 in October 1998 to 50 in January 1999. The task team said there were 573 farm and smallholding attacks between January and September last year, compared to 317 for the same period in 1997.
