CT EMISSIONS PROJECT

THE Cape Metropolitan Council (CMC) will launch its diesel emissions control campaign on Thursday in an attempt to reduce brown haze pollution. Trucks will be pulled off the road and their exhaust fumes tested on the spot, the CMC says. The council said it intended to solicit the co-operation of trucking companies and other diesel vehicle owners, who should realise the environmental benefits of running a ”clean” vehicle. Diesel emissions have been identified in research as being by far the biggest cause of brown haze pollution which, in the winter months, is a menace in the Cape Town area.
