SUDAN UP FOR SPLIT?

THE Sudanese opposition coalition National Democratic Alliance (NDA) charged on Tuesday that Sudanese President Omar al-Beshir is ready to divide the country to establish an Islamic state in the north. Beshir was quoted in several Sunday papers in Sudan as saying, “The option of separating the south from the north is likely if the (civil) war continues and the martyrs increase in number.”However, the president said his Islamic government is ready to “open up all avenues leading to a genuine unity” with the mainly Christian and animist south.
