BENGU LAUNCHES PROBE

MINISTER of Education Professor Sibusiso Bengu has launched a probe into tampering in the calculation of scores in last year’s Mpumalanga matric exams. The province produced a pass rate of 72,5%, some 26,5% higher than the previous year. Bengu cited what he called “prima facie evidence of tampering” in the scores, and has involved the SAPS in the investigation. The investigation will be concluded by the end of March.
