PARLIAMENT has accused the military of a serious breach of security by posting a highly damning internal report on the Internet, a newspaper reported on Sunday. The Sunday Independent said the report, posted on the Internet during February, details decay and declining morale in all sections of the military and a shortage of cash which meant parts of South Africa’s borders were left unmanned. The report by the South African National Defence Force said morale had declined and senior personnel were leaving the force. Financing for army and navy exercises was inadequate and the air force would have to cut its flying hours, it said. The defence committee of South Africa’s parliament, which oversees southern Africa’s largest armed force, is expected to take action on the report this week.
