ZIM MEDIA ACT CHALLENGED

A HARARE Magistrate’s Court remanded the case of Zimbabwe Mirror journalists Ibbo Mandaza and Grace Kwinjeh on Monday morning to April 30 on charges of violating the colonial Law and Order Maintenance Act. The court awaits the outcome of a Supreme Court application by the defence counsel challenging the constitutionality of Section 50 of the Act. Their lawyers argue the Act violates section 20 of the constitution which gives the right to receive and disseminate information. Mandaza and Kwinjeh are being charged for reporting that the army returned to a family just the head of their son, a soldier killed in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
