ABOUT 800 international experts meet in Durban on Monday to discuss the growing threat of malaria, estimated to kill two children worldwide every minute. That figure could be cut by one-third if treated mosquito nets were to be distributed throughout Africa, according to a study published by the Multilateral Initiative on Malaria. The conference will focus on genetic research into malaria and the drive to find a malaria vaccine. Researchers, public health workers and aid donors from 60 countries are taking part in the four-day conference, the biggest of its kind held in Africa.
