PRESIDENT Nelson Mandela and his deputy Thabo Mbeki on Sunday launched their African National Congress’ campaign for South Africa’s June 2 election with pledges to speed up social change. Introducing the party’s election manifesto to the masses at a rally in Johannesburg’s Soweto township, Mbeki said the ANC will remain true to its promise of a “a better life for all” – the rallying cry that brought it to power in 1994. This time, however, he said, the party will step up the pace of delivery and bring that ideal home to the millions who are not yet enjoying the fruits of South Africa’s transformation to democracy.
