AFRICAN TENNIS MEET FOR SA

SOUTH Africa’s top tennis juniors will be able to test their skills against Africa’s best at the ITF/MTN African Junior Championships which will take place at the Groenkloof courts in Pretoria from April 4-11. Some 181 players from 41 African countries will participate in this event which is sanctioned by the International Tennis Federation. For the first time in the 22-year history of the event, the ITF will hold a qualifying tournament for the developing tennis countries — Burkina Faso, Libya, Sudan, Zambia, Gambia, Mauritania, Burundi, Mozambique, Swaziland, Niger, Tanzania, Equatorial Guinea, Guinea Conakry, Sierra Leone, Malawi and the Seychelles. Direct acceptances into the main draw of the event are: Algeria, Madagascar, Tunisia, Ethiopia, Gabon, Mali, Botswana, Cte d’Ivoire, Morocco, Zimbabwe, Kenya, Cameroon, South Africa, Egypt, Nigeria, Angola, Mauritius, Liberia, Lesotho, Rwanda, Ghana, Senegal, Benin, Namibia and Uganda.
