CABINET TO HEAR ANC’S ‘PR SPLURGE’

FIVE opposition parties are to meet the Cabinet on Wednesday to discuss what they are claiming is an abuse of taxpayers money by the African National Congress in a publicity campaign. New National Party, the Democratic Party, the Freedom Front, the African Christian Democratic Party and the Pan Africanist Congress have claimed that a recent R4,3-million Government Communication and Information Service (GCIS) publicity campaign amounts to little more than an attempt to promote the ANC ahead of the June 2 election. The campaign details what the GCIS refers to as government’s achievements over the past five years. Opposition parties called for the resignation of GCIS head Joel Netshitenzhe, and asked the public protector and the Human Rights Commission to probe the matter.
