CT MILLENIUM BASH

CAPE TOWN unveiled plans on Wednesday to welcome in the new millennium in style, but warned potential revellers to book their place for a sunny New Year soon. Cape Town mayor Nomaindia Mfeketo said the city plans a six-month programme of arts and cultural events starting in September as well as a huge New Year’s Eve party with a laser and fireworks display centred on Table Mountain. Sheryl Ozinsky, manager of Cape Town Tourism, said the city will be among the world’s top party destinations, adding that even Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama planned to come. Some of Cape Town’s top hotels said they are already booked up for the end of the year and for their own in-house parties.
