THE Zambian government has recalled Jack Kalala, its Consul-General in Lubumbashi in the Democratic Republic of Congo, for conduct unbcoming with his diplomatic status. Zambian Foreign Affairs minister Keli Walubita confirmed in Lusaka on Tuesday that: “The Consul-General is on immediate recall and the last communication to remind him to return home was sent to him yesterday.” Kalala has been accused by the Congolese government of aiding that country’s rebel forces by taking advantage of his diplomatic immunities to organise secret transport of rebels from Lubumbashi to Zambia using his official vehicle. Kalala is said to have “kept on displaying support for (rebel leader) Lunda Bululu who is his friend.”
