A COURT in northern Rwanda has sentenced seven people to death for crimes against humanity committed during the 1994 genocide, the Rwandan news agency ARI reported on Wednesday. Another five of the 25 defendants in the case heard in Ruhengeri received life terms, while one will serve a year and the rest were acquitted. More than 1000 people await execution, while more than 120000 are awaiting trial in Rwanda’s overcrowded prisons.Between 500000 and 800000 minority Tutsis and moderate Hutus were killed in the 1994 bloodbath.
