NNP BLASTS HEATH DELAYS

BUREAUCRATIC bungling and deliberate political interference by the Northern Province cabinet has delayed 15 major corruption investigations by two years, the New National Party (NNP) said on Wednesday. NNP provincial leader, Tjol Lategan, also said in a statement on Wednesday that the province has yet to proclaim a single investigation request by Judge Willem Heath’s crack anti-corruption unit. Heath’s spokesman, Guy Rich, confirmed that the unit is having difficulties getting its investigations in the Northern Province authorised but stressed he is unsure what the “snags” are. He confirmed the pending investigations include probes into the provincial education department’s fraudulent R35-million contract with Sen Enterprises in 1997 and a string of dubious multi-million property deals in the public works department.
