PENTOW Marine’s salvage tug John Ross left Cape Town harbour late on Thursday for the Port Elizabeth area in an attempt to tow a disabled 31000 ton chemical tanker. The Gina, carrying 28000 tons of vegetable oil, suffered major rudder failure on a voyage from Argentina to Durban and requires urgent assistance. According to salvors Pentow Marine, the Gina is drifting with the Agulhas current. It is expected the Gina will be towed to Durban for repairs once the John Ross has connected a towline to the stricken vessel.
