THE Nigerian government has decided to review a $214,98-million oil refinery maintenance contract with the French oil company Total, a government official said on Tuesday. The official, who was not named, told reporters at the refinery at Kaduna in northern Nigeria, that the government is not happy with Total’s performance at the Kaduna Refinery and Petrochemical Company refinery. Total was in January 1998 awarded a contract to conduct “turn around maintenance” on the refinery which was shut down in July 1997. After several delays, the company announced in February that the plant was back in production. But KRPC officials told reporters Monday production at the plant has yet to resume.
