NEW LONGEST GOLD CHAIN

THE world’s longest gold chain is to go on sale during Egypt’s shopping festival in July, newspapers reported on Friday. Dubbed Cleopatra’s Snake in tribute to the last pharaonic queen, the 4500-meter-long chain will weigh 250kg, Al-Akhbar newspaper said. The chain will be sold off in sections to customers during Egypt’s second annual month-long shopping festival that opens on July 20, Abdel Moneim Seudi, head of the federation of industries, told the daily. Cleopatra (69-30 BC) was Egypt’s last pharaonic queen before the country fell into Roman hands. Organisers of the festival hope to enter the Guinness Book of Records for the chain. Dubai, which prides itself as the “city of gold,” manufactured what it dubbed the longest gold chain, weighing 50kg, for its four-week shopping festival that was held in March.
