A HIGH-LEVEL political row has broken out in Austria over the death of a Nigerian deportee, who suffocated to death on a plane on which he was held bound and gagged.
Austrian President Thomas Klestil has called for a full inquiry into the death of Marcus Omafumo, who had worked abroad in Germany for many years. On his way home to Lagos, Omafumo was deported from Austria to Bulgaria. He was brought aboard the plane gagged and bound because he was resisting arrest. According to passengers on the plane, every time he cried out, the gags were tightened by the three policemen who accompanied him. On arrival in Bulgaria he was found to be dead.
