SENIOR foreign affairs official Robert McBride on Friday rejected as incorrect several media reports that he was being investigated and could be charged for the alleged assault of a woman outside an escort agency in the early hours of the morning.
McBride said in a statement that the incident referred to did not happen outside an escort agency but inside a pub in Cape Town which, as far as he was aware, is not an escort agency. Police spokesman Mark Romburgh said on Friday police were investigating a charge of common assault after a 40-year-old woman said she was assaulted and had beer poured over her head at an escort agency in the city at about 2am on Friday. Romburgh said police patrolled the area and stopped a Mercedes Benz. “There were three people in the car, one of whom was Robert McBride,” Romburgh said. No one has yet been charged, according to police.
