THE International Committee of the Red Cross will repatriate six Chadian prisoners of war held by the Ugandan army in the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Ugandan commander said on Thursday in Kisangani. Chadian troops who had been fighting alongside the army of President Laurent Kabila withdrew from the north of the country last month. Brigadier James Kazini, the Ugandan chief of staff and overall commander of Ugandan troops in the DRC, said at his headquarters that “the Red Cross is now managing the matter.” The Chadians reported they are holding two Ugandan POWs, Kazini added. The six Chadian POWs were captured by Ugandan troops, who are fighting alongside DRC rebels, in a series of confrontations around November last year, Kazini said.
