TON GETS WAUGH INTO RECORD BOOKS

IN an innings alternating style with savagery, Australian opener Mark Waugh struck 104 from 120 balls with 13 boundaries as his team beat Zimbabwe by 44 runs. The elegant right-hander, who signalled a return to his best with 83 against India on Friday, mixed finesse with power as he enthralled a packed Lord’s. Waugh became Australia’s highest scorer in one-day internationals, surpassing Allan Border’s 6,524 in 273 matches to reach 6,594 in 189 matches. His hundred ended India’s monopoly of century making at this tournament., his being the sixth century while the previous five have come from Indian batsmen. He is now one ahead of Rameez Raja (Pakistan), Viv Richards (West Indies) and Sachin Tendulkar (India) on the list of World Cup century makers.
