PREPARATIONS for the Southern African Development Community heads of state summit in Lusaka on June 26 are on course, said Zambian foreign affairs spokesman Kimbala Meleka on Monday. Meleka confirmed that SADC defence and foreign ministers are expected to begin arriving in Lusaka from Tuesday to begin finalising the summit’s agenda on Wednesday. Ministers from Rwanda and Uganda are also expected for deliberations on a possible settlement of the civil war in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Meleka said discussions for a ceasefire agreement in the DRC are already included in the tentative agenda and include committee discussions on how to implement any possible ceasefire while addressing security concerns by the DRC’s neighbours of Angola, Burundi, Rwanda and Uganda.
