ANOTHER HAPPY BUREAUCRAT

THE South African Local Government Association on Tuesday suspended its financial manager Carol Mpapele following his arrest on Monday on corruption charges. Mpapele briefly appeared in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Monday afternoon after he allegedly received a bribe from an IT company that was contracted to install network cables at Salga’s new offices in Pretoria. Mpapele will remain suspended on full pay pending the outcome of the court case and an internal disciplinary hearing. Salga chairman Collin Matjila said it was regrettable that a senior staff member should be suspended on allegations of corruption. “Salga is at the forefront of local campaigns to eradicate corruption and will not hesitate to take action against anyone implicated in acts of corruption,” he said.
