ZIMBABWE’S Supreme Court on Friday ordered an end to solitary confinement for three US citizens held in a maximum security prison on gun charges, with other improvements in their conditions. The three detained Americans earlier this week complained of inhuman treatment at Chikurubi prison on the outskirts of the capital. John Lamonte Dixon, Gary George Blanchard and Joseph Wendell Pettijohn, all aged 35, said the extensive security around them and the solitary confinement infringed on their rights. The court not only ordered ordered that they enjoy free movement within the jail, but also ordered an improvement int heir diet. The trio stand accused of trying to board a Swiss airliner with dangerous weapons of war in March. The orders came a few days ahead of the opening of their trial, which starts on Monday.
