WORLD CUP’S $117.5m PROFIT

A RECORD 75 million (about $117.5 million) is the expected profit from the rugby union World Cup which starts in two and a half months time, the Daily Telegraph newspaper reported in London on Friday. Profits raised from the October 1 to November 6 competition will be passed on to help rugby union development worldwide with an estimated 50-million being earmarked. There was also a new pledge from World Cup chief executive Keith Rowlands that the showpiece Millennium Stadium will be ready to stage the opening game. “Everything is now in place. The Millennium Stadium in Cardiff is on track. There is no question that it will not be ready,” Rowlands said.
