A South African short film was recently awarded the Silver Falcon having been placed second in the video section of the International Festival of Non-Professional Filmmakers held for the 19th time in the seaside resort of Kelibia, in Tunisia.
The kudos went to Cape Town filmmaker Sally White for her film Whaleman, the story of a man (played by Graham Weir) who literally drinks himself to fishdom. Written by Leon van der Merwe, Whaleman was produced by ZED A Films. The first and third prizes in White’s category, which featured 38 finalists from 16 countries, went to entries from Spain.
Other South African films which progressed to the final rounds of the competition were Sechaba Morojele’s Voetsek, Michael Rudolph’s Snap, Andrew Schroeder’s Legless in Lapland and Craig Howard Bregman’s Floyd.
South Africa’s entries were facilitated by Three Worlds Agency (Cape Town), the Tunisian Embassy (Pretoria) and the South African Embassy in Tunis.
