ZAMBIAN ministers’ spouses, children and relatives have been banned from driving government motor vehicles. According to a Cabinet Office circular, the government has been losing about K7-billion annually due to negligence and misuse of its motor vehicles. The number of government motor vehicles involved in accidents, according to Ministry of Works and Supply records, is rising every year and money has been lost through repairs and total write-offs. the Office has set aside a brief allowing such use, and has promised stiff fines for abuse. The directive affects ministers as well and warned of disciplinary measures against anyone who breaches it.
