MOZAMBIQUE plans to build a new deep water port and ocean terminal at Ponta Dobela, 70 km south of Maputo, the capital. The Mozambican News Agency reported that an agreement for the ports construction was signed in Maputo on Friday night by the government and the country’s publicly-owned ports and railways company, CFM, and with the company Porto Dobela Developments Ltd. Porto Dobela Developments said that the total investment involved will be a minimum of $515-million over a maximum period of six years. Transport Minister Paulo Muxanga, who signed the agreement for the Mozambican government, stressed that Ponta Dobela will be able to accommodate much larger ships than Maputo port can.
