A BILL to close a loophole in the legislation on seizure of the proceeds of organised crime was tabled in Parliament on Thursday. The Prevention of Organised Crime Second Amendment Bill has been tagged as an “urgent matter” under the parliamentary rules, and is to be fast-tracked through the legislative process. The bill will deal with the non-retroactive nature of the original law, which has allowed two prominent suspected gangsters to prevent their assets being seized. It is expected to be put to the vote in the National Assembly’s first sitting of this session, next Wednesday afternoon.
