MORE than 1000 temporary teachers in the Northern Province were not paid their July salaries because of an administrative mixup, said the South African Democratic Teachers’ Union (Sadtu) on Monday. The other 37000 temporary teachers were paid on time. Northern Province acting education superintendent, Professor Harry Nengwekhulu, attributed the failure to pay the teachers to computer problems, and said these would be rectified as soon as possible. Segooa also said the department is running behind in its plan to reassess the spread of teachers in the province, and transfer them to areas where they were needed most.
