WEAKLEY KILLERS GET AMNESTY

THE Truth and Reconciliation Commission on Thursday granted amnesty to four African National Congress members for killing Grahamstown lawyer Alistair Weakley and his brother, Glen, in the Transkei area in 1993. The TRC’s amnesty committee granted amnesty to Pumelele Hermanus, Mlulami Maxhayi, Lungile Mazwi and Fundisile Guleni for the murder of the brothers on the grounds that the applicants had a political motive. The applicants testified they had acted in retaliation for the assassination of South African Communist Party leader Chris Hani on April 10, 1993.
