POACHED PERLEMOEN RECOVERED

POLICE divers on Thursday recovered 562 poached perlemoen (abalone) worth about R15000 at Noordhoek outside Port Elizabeth. Police spokesman Captain Dirk Coetzee said the perlemoen was found in three bags under rocks close the shore line. On Wednesday night, Sea Fishery inspectors saw the poachers diving at the rocks and contacted the police. Coetzee said the police went to the area and when the poachers saw them they swam away. He said perlemoen poaching happens frequently in the Port Elizabeth area.
