GRAHAM THORPE’S decision to withdraw from England’s winter tour to South Africa has either created or solved a dilemma for the national selectors. The 30-year-old left-hander announced his decision not to undertake the tour, citing family reasons, before England’s loss on Sunday in the fourth and deciding test at the Oval. With England’s batting lineup failing dismally in a 2-1 test series loss to New Zealand, Thorpe’s position on the team could have been in jeopardy. However, with a shortage of in-form batsmen at their disposal, England selectors may now struggle to find a suitable replacement.
