THE Economic Community of West African States (Ecowas) is to form a commission to help ease tension along the volatile border between Liberia and Guinea, it said in a communique on Friday. The commission will seek “solutions to common security problems threatening peace and security between Guinea and Liberia,” said the statement, issued overnight after a meeting of foreign ministers with high-level officials. The gathering had been called to stem the crisis in a region rife with refugees and militia groups, following attacks two weeks ago in northwestern Liberia by unidentified insurgents believed to have crossed over the border from Guinea.
