STATE-employed doctors, specialists and dentists will from Wednesday no longer be allowed to run private practices, the Government Communication and Information System announced on Tuesday. Previously, doctors employed by the government were allowed to engage in Limited Private Practice to suplement their income. The practice had to be conducted outside of their normal 40-hour week. The decision to abolish LPP was endorsed by the Minister of Health and the provincial health MECs. The South African Medical Association has however declared a dispute and the matter is currently up for arbitration at the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration.
