A man armed with a knife and caustic soda attacked Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak before he was shot and killed by the president’s bodyguard in the northern town of Port Said on Monday. The attacker, identified as El Sayed Hussein Soliman, (40) who was known to police for criminal activities, jumped over a protective grill as Mubarak’s car was passing with a window open, police said. Mubarak sustained a flesh wound to a hand when he tried to push him away. Mubarak was on a tour of industrial and economic projects in the Port Said area where the Suez Canal opens onto the Mediterranean Sea on Egypt’s north coast.
