PRESS AWARD GIVEN POSTHUMOUSLY

THE Media Institute of Southern Africa has awarded its annual Press Freedom Award to the late Bright Mwape. It is the second time the award has been given posthumously. Mwape, who died on August 16, as a result of injuries sustained in a motor accident, was head of MISA’s Media and Information Unit. He was previously managing editor of the Post newspaper in Zambia. The award was announced at a gala dinner at the conclusion of MISA’s 1999 AGM in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, on Friday.
