SA AMONG HEALTHIER TOURISM DESTINATIONS

OF a total of 51 destinations surveyed by the influential British Consumer’s Association – South Africa has been rated 22nd according to the number of sicknesses reported. This places South Africa among many first world countries when it comes the amount of travel related illnesses reported by tourists when they return home. Approximately 16% of visitors to South Africa reported one or more travel associated illnesses. This is compared to 18% in Australia and 58% in Mexico. The three highest risk countries were Mexico, the Dominican Republic and Egypt. The three lowest risk countries were the UK, Croatia and Belgium. Stomach upsets accounted for almost half the complaints.
