DURBAN SPEEDSTER FINED R12000

A DURBAN businesswoman travelling home from Johannesburg in her Mercedes Benz sports car was trapped doing 214km/h on the N3 outside Ladysmith on Monday morning. Kathleen van Rooyen was arrested and taken immediately to the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court where she admitted guilt. She was handed a R12000 fine by the presiding magistrate. Van Rooyen, (48) who works for a transport company, opted to pay the fine on the spot and was escorted to a local bank. KwaZulu-Natal Traffic Inspectorate spokesman Vijen Murugan said the severity of the fine indicated that the justice system recognised the seriousness of high speed driving.
