PROTEST AT INDONESIAN EMBASSY

SOUTH AFRICAN sympathisers gathered at the Indonesian Embassy in Pretoria on Friday calling for a complete withdrawal of Indonesian troops from East Timor. In a memorandum addressed to Indonesian President B J Habibie, the sixty-odd protestors also demanded the immediate recognition of the independence of East Timor. The protesters lit candles in memory of those killed during the Indonesian occupation of East Timor, and left flowers and freed two white doves.
