SIXTY-NINE people were murdered on farms and smallholdings in the first six months of this year, according to Safety and Security Minister Steve Tshwete. The figure for the whole of 1998 was 142, and for 1997 it was 85, he said in reply to a parliamentary question on Tuesday. Although he was unable to say how many of the 1999 victims were killed with guns, the figure for the first half of 1998 was 66,4%.
