EIGHT people were arrested on Sunday in connection with the death of a man suspected of raping a 16-year-old girl in Daveyton on the East Rand last week. According to police spokesman Inspector Eugene Opperman, the eight were part of a group, accompanied by the victim, who went looking for the rapists. Two suspects were pointed out and they were forced to go to a house in Gija Street where they were severely assaulted. When police arrived at the scene they found the two in a garage, half-naked and seriously injured. They were treated by paramedicsm, but one of the victims, Lazaro Motla, died at the police station. Opperman praised the investigating team for the eight suspects’ arrest. He also cautioned the public against vigilantism.
