The Appeal Committee of the Advertising Standards Authority meets on Friday to assess the ASA ruling on the Charlize Theron rape commercial. Advertising agency The Jupiter Drawing Room and Femina are appealing the decision of the ASA Standards Committee and as the appellant will appear before the Appeal Committee. The complainants submitted documentation in reply to the appeal but will not be personally represented at the hearing. Both the Commission on Gender Equality and the Rape Crisis Counselling centre in Cape Town will join Friday’s proceedings as interested parties. The ASA has opened the hearing to the public as a result of public interest in the case. The final decision will be deliberated by the Committee following the hearing and an announcement made shortly thereafter.
