Glenn van Wyk, a physical education teacher at Queens High School, was this Wednesday charged with one count of rape and two counts of statutory rape.
The charges relate to an allegation of raping three 14-year-old pupils at Queens High in Jeppe, Johannesburg. After a four-hour bail application opposed by the state, Van Wyk had his British passport removed and was granted bail of R10 000.
Van Wyk, who has threatened to sue the Mail & Guardian, teachers and pupils at the school, was warned to have no further contact with any of the pupils.
There are allegations that this is not the first school at which Van Wyk has had such complaints levelled against him.
Handwritten posters defaming the child who first reported the rape were plastered on walls at the school this Monday.
The case has been remanded until November 18 in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court.
